I started out with a non-gutenverse Theme, and now just changed to Gutenverse/Restance.

Now, if I navigate to Pages via the WordPress menu, I can still see the text that I entered initially, however it’s nowhere to be seen in the Restance theme. Which is the correct way to enter content? Via WordPress Pages? Or Edit site > Templates? It seems strange to me that content can be entered in two different places. Can pages and templates be merged somehow?

I also installed the Yoast SEO plug-in previous to Gutenverse – which is the best way to edit meta-data with Yoast and Gutenverse? Currently I am editing this through Pages.

    hi @ettig,

I will explain a little about block themes (template)

    • There is several template available restance. some of them, such as Search, 404, etc, are reserved for the default WordPress such as search page, 404 page, archive page, etc.
    • And some of them such as you can assign as template when you create pages. by Default it will be Page. there will also be about, contact, etc (all lowercase string) https://share.getcloudapp.com/nOubX0D8
    • You can access list of template from Appearance > Editor > click on top bar there is dropdown with Front Page > Browse All Template

Now about your question, why your content is not showing? it is depends on which template you using. for example, if you are using “about” as a template on your page, you will need to edit the template directly from Template Editor (Appearance > Editor), you don’t need to fill content on your page (the content you insert will be ignored). but if you use Default Template, the content on your page will show just fine.

yes of course you can use Yoast. I’m not knowledgable about how the plugin work, but I think they will scan the content of page to determine how well you on search. if that being the case, using default restance page (such as about, etc) may not give you the best score on Yoast. but there is another way around, you can create new template, and only include both header & footer. and after that, you can import the content using gutenverse library. here I attach image how you can do it.

    1. click new on page where you usually choose template https://share.getcloudapp.com/E0uZR5yJ
    2. choose template part https://share.getcloudapp.com/04uWybWO and you will prompted to choose header / footer.
    3. you may need to add background behind header to make it look like this https://share.getcloudapp.com/6quGNKN4
    4. and after that, you can just write your content and Yoast will be able to scan your content.

in next update we may include header & footer templates too to the themes to make it easier for you to edit the page without creating a template.
