Content disappears when published

  • When my client publishes their posts (using WP 3.2), all the content disappears and only the title remains. This happens very randomly and began only recently when they started using new PC’s with Windows 7, if this matters.

    I’ve reviewed many topics in this forum but many of the issues were with much earlier versions of WP.

    The four plugins being used is a custom email notification my company created, a Default Theme plugin, a Rebranded Meta Widget, and an Update Notifications plugin.

    Any help with this?

    One more thing I just found out: this problem started on September 9th. All blog posting before this worked perfectly. Was there any type of update on or around the 8th or 9th that would have caused this glitch?

    Someone would probably need more info, a link, or hands-on access to figure this out.

    Quick guess.. if they’re pasting something from MS Word, or some other non-plain-text source, that will contain nasty extra code that can vanish the post, or at least make it look awful with its embedded CSS and so on. “Paste from Word” in the editor helps a bit with that.

    They are posting directly in WP, no pasting.

    Are you able to detect anything from viewing the source of this page?

    Correction: they are using WP 3.0.4, not 3.2 like I mentioned earlier.

    Have you tried:
    – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Don’t forget the ones in mu-plugins. If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    Definitely what kmessinger said, and that extra info sheds some light.

    For instance, I can’t recall if 3.04 allows auto-updates, but if the person saw “update such and such plugin” and just did so absent-mindedly, something could now be out of sync.

    If something truly happened without the person changing anything, it could be something like PHP was upgraded by the host or something like that.

    If there’s some setting in Win7 that borks the editor, I have no clue.

    Log into their site yourself and see if you can put content in there. If so, it could still be user error – I’ve learned never to discount that.

    There is nothing in Windows 7 that causes this problem. But, you should check IE9, Internet Options, Security, Custom or Default, and scroll down to Scripting (about 7/8’s of the way down) and make sure it is enabled.
