Content disappears and doesn't save when I hit update.

  • I have a website and I am trying to update the content on one of the pages.

    When I go to change the content on a page even just one word I lose most of my content and I have to revert to what was originally there.

    I need to update my biography and can’t seem to do it.

    I have deactivated all plugins and tried to change the content – No go
    I went in through PHPmyAdmin and updated the tables still nothing.

    I dont’ know what else to do.

  • Is content lost from the website or just from the editing window?

    Does this happen for every page?

    Does this happen if you change themes?

    the content is lost from the website.

    it happens on every page.

    the theme is a custom theme and I don’t know how to change it.

    On the menu Appearance > Themes then select another theme, like Twenty Fourteen.

    Almost certainly you will need to be logged in as the Administrator.

    Switch your theme back after testing.

    It still does it with the 2014 theme.

    What WordPress version are you running at present?

    It could be related to some out of date files in WordPress or in plugins that nee to be upgraded.

    When were you able to last update successfully?

    I updated everything today.

    I am running 4.0.1 and all my plugins were updated.

    What are the parts of the page that go missing? – can you specifically define them – are they all content text or are there specific widget areas?

    Are you editing the areas that go missing?

    Do you see any sign of a problem in the editor either before or after you update the changes?

    When was the last time you could successfully edit?

    What has been the update/upgrade history of the site or any components since then?

    What does your file editing history show – dates of page revisions and any autosaves?

    Which of these can you successfully revert to?
