As a publisher that writes many recipe roundups I absolutely LOVE your plugin!

I am curious though, I cannot use your plugin to display my own site’s content in an article as it wants to use the last image (my signature) for the content card rather than the first image which is always the prominent titled image in any post.

I end up having to insert the actual image and link to the article rather than using your content card for my posts. I am afraid my own content will get passed over by other content card plugin users because it does this.

Is there a way I can make it find the first (corrent) image or select it somehow?

p.s. I do not utilize the set as featured image feature in WP as I do not want my image at the top of the article, but rather just above the MORE tag and it does not allow me to do that.

    Hi MaggieB,

This appears to be caused by multiple og:image declarations in your page header.

It’s an edge case we haven’t seen before, but picking the first image seems like a better choice than the last one. I’ve created an issue for this on GitHub where you can track it:
    https://github.com/ideag/content-cards/issues/71

We’ll make sure to update this topic once the issue gets resolved. Thanks for trying Content Cards!

I really love Content Cards and will be sure to watch this to see if anyone has a way to have it grab the title image.

In the example you put on GitHub (https://github.com/ideag/content-cards/issues/71) the very first meta property=”og:image” listed is the one it should use BUT the very last one in that list of 4 (signature image) is the one Content Cards is picking up.

Maybe if I add a bit of Custom CSS through my CSS Stylesheet Editor might force it and/or any Open Graph Protocol (I am assuming that is how your plugin grabs the image) to grab the first one?

I don’t set any meta properties, I just write the posts and allow WP etc to do that stuff in the background.

    Thanks for your help!

I found a spot in Yoast SEO to designate the image both Facebook and Twitter (and then as a default I had hoped OGP too) BUT others have tried that too it seems with little success. It seems when so many images are designated as OG:Image that the selected image is still not getting selected when social media scrapes the post!?

Facebook debugger is reporting og:image was not defined, could not be downloaded or was not big enough. Please define a chosen image using the og:image metatag, and use an image that’s at least 200x200px and is accessible from Facebook. Image ‘https://margeburkell.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/Pickle-Roll-Ups-FLY-off-the-Plate.jpg’ will be used instead.

That nor any of the images it is selecting is acceptable AND the main picture is more than big enough so no reason it’s not grabbing it as far as I can see.
    Do you have any ideas?

The “When shared, this is what will be included:” at the bottom of the FB debugger shows the CORRECT image yet when it is put onto a FB page it is the incorrect ones that I can only select from! Grrr…

Any ideas? I am sure that this is why that it won’t work with Content Cards either! I would sure love to be able to use your plugin with my own site when including my own posts into my big curated posts! Especially so that the post is uniform, rather than some content cards with my own images just pictures with a link.

Thanks for your help. It’s my hope that this add’l info might help…

Any idea why Google+ always seems to get the correct image? Perplexing.

    Hey MaggieB,

Facebooks image selection works in mysterious ways. ??

All I can suggest is to make sure the og:image is in fact at least 200x200px (in your case they seem to be) and to use the “Fetch new scrape information” often.

As for Content Cards, we only store one og:image so due to the way it’s getting fetched we’re likely just getting the “last one” (in the HTML). That’s what the aformentioned ticket will hopefully fix by picking the first instance of og:image instead. (Since it’s probably the most prioritized one.)

    Hope that helps!

the main image is more like 675 x 500 in most cases… so that is not the problem. I have used the FB debugger BUT that is not changing anything… as I mentioned above Stanislav the “When shared, this is what will be included:” at the bottom of the FB debugger shows the CORRECT image yet when it is put onto a FB page it is the incorrect ones that I can only select from.

I don’t know what you mean by what the aformentioned ticket will hopefully fix by picking the first instance of og:image instead…the ticket on https://github.com/ideag/content-cards/issues/71 ?

In the meantime, I have tried everything I can think of on my end and it’s not making a difference.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello MagggieB,

What this means, that we have made a fix for this issue and it will be available as soon as we release next version to the plugin repository. That should happen in a few days.

If you don’t want to wait, you can download and install the latest development version here: https://github.com/ideag/content-cards/archive/master.zip
Fair warning – we haven’t released it yet for a reason. There might be some bugs left and we haven’t documented latest features yet. So if you are not a technical person, it might be safer for you to wait for the version release.

    Hi Arunas!

Just returned to my office and tried to see if this is working yet.
Nope! Here is what I see if I try to make a content card of content
on my own site. Now it’s not even displaying the image.
    I don’t know what it is…

AND when I put that link on Facebook it still shows the wrong images,
every one BUT the one I want!

Have you done the update? I had thought it might have been included in
the update that occurred just before Thanksgiving (November 26th) Day.

Sure would love to see this working correctly!
    Thanks for your help!

    Good Morning Arunas!

You are BRILLIANT! YES! Now your content card plugin is working for my own content on my own page in my roundups! YAY!

Now if Yoast would just get it together so that Facebook would pick up the correct picture I’d be all set!

BUT thrilled that YOU came through for me!
    I love your plugin!
