Hello I am working on thepreciselife.com.

I am trying to move the main content area lower so you can
see the shelf area on my background.

I tried .page { margin-top: 300px;) and it works, but now
it messes with the location of the text content area, for example
my “home” page title moves way further down.

Also another thing id like to do is keep the content area fixed,
so i have to scroll down to see it, and not have it cover the shelf
area of my background.

I tried to add `.page { position: fixed; } but then
it made the sizing weird and moved it to the far left.

Any help is highly appreciated!

Sorry, I don’t understand what you are trying to do – the shelf seems to be visible to me. You might also want to check your site on a resized browser- as it looks like some of your changes are causing problems…

yea i think that is because it is built into twentytwelve to try
and resize everything. i have some coding to fix that but i want to
work on these probs first.

you see how the content titlte “HOME” is towards the bottom of the
content area? that happens when i add { margin-top: 300px;)

ok so here are some photos

this is the empty space that gets added when i use
.page { margin-top: 300px;} to move the content area down
so i can see the shelf.

this is how i ended up making it look, and thats the way every page

To start, you need to fix the errors in the header.php file:

Then fix that Parse error in the child theme CSS:

the errors in the header.php point to this
<body class="home page page-id-58 page-template-default custom-font-enabled single-author">

but i do not see what is wrong with, especially because thats how it is
in the main themes .css file.

also the parse error, it just says “Parse Error }”
it doesnt say where.

That error in the header.php file looks like something is wrong in that file – not the css file. Did you modify the header.php file in your child theme?

The parse error has a line number- use that to find the error – copy your file to a text editor if you need to.

ok i fixed the parse error.

and as for the header, i moved the nav, above everything else so i can load it outside the header and let it rest on the top of the page

all i did was cut the nav stuff and pasted it right after the
close </head> tag

That’s likely the problem – ALL code on any webpage has to be inside the <body> tags.

well i moved it back under the body and now im getting these errors

Those errors aren’t going to effect the layout of your site, don’t worry about them for now.

ok so now back to moving the content area down so i can see the
background shelf area.

this piece of code seems to work for every page, EXCEPT
for the woocommerce shop page.

page is an ID not a class – but your CSS is for a class –

So it should be #page
