    I need to place some content above the first post on my main page. Ideally it would simply look like a post, but would always remain the first one. OR, I could just manually use some HTML to make it look like I want, but again it would stay above the first post in the left column on my blog.

    Try editing your theme’s index.php template and adding this content to the template file before the Loop.

    That didn’t really work because I couldn’t format it how I wanted to. I ended up making the post sticky by clicking on Edit next to Visibility: Public, and choosing to make it sticky. It’s not perfect, but close enough.
