Contact form not working

I am really confused and i’d love an explanation in plain language (not a programmer)….

I have tried 2 contact forms, neither work. Contact Form 7 and the WP Contact form Lite. (free versions).

I read about how using php (not smpt?), you cant send messages through the form to your inbox in say Gmail because of some pre-spam blocking that happens when the sender email (the site) does not match the sender email you specify in settings (bummer). I read that I have to buy an email option with my host (no thanks please) OR give my gmail log in info to my wordpress plugin in order to send through there (no thanks please).

Anyone have a solution? oh – Basically, I can send a “test email” through the plugins and they get through. When I try through the actual form on my site it says “your contact email was sent!” kinda thing but nothing gets through to my inbox. Yes I have checked all of my settings….
Any solutions that do not compromise my wallet nor my security info? I just want to be able to be contacted by people on my site, simply put.
