• Hi guys,

Rookie builder here – I had my contact form set up just fine and emails were forwarded to my inbox – all of a sudden they are no longer coming through.
I can’t think of any changes I made that would cause this.
I still see messages in the ‘feedback’ pane of wordpress – not super convenient there.

I have tried to re-insert the contact form, tried to install postman, tried to use a different email address – still nothing.
    Any suggestions?!

    Thank you ??

  • Please help me with this as well! So very frustrating. I removed my contact form months ago due to this problem, now I’m getting potential clients through comments, but their comments aren’t forwarding to my email either!!!! I have lost potential clients because of this (ie. I get back to them over a month later).

I deactivated plugins for spam blocking (that helped one person), I contacted my hosting company (nothing was wrong), I changed my email (ironically, got an email from wordpress with my email change- but somehow won’t forward emails via comments).

I just installed a plugin for a members only site and I NEED the email to work for this- this is how I found out the comments haven’t been working either- when I went to set all this up.

VERY frustrating! I’m working with the Sela theme- which I love and my website is riverockhealth.com.

    Please help us!!!

It sounds like exactly the same problem drchelsea – sorry you are having these issues too, but it sounds like a glitch, instead of me doing something wrong!

Were you getting emails forwarded to you before? That’s the weirdest part to me – it used to work!

We too are late getting back to potential clients because the emails aren’t coming through – I will need to remove the form if I can’t find a fix right away.
Might have to be an old fashioned link to an email address..!?
I don’t use comments – maybe until this is fixed you should remove that ability so clients don’t think you’re ignoring them..? (see, I find ways to avoid the problem if I don’t know how to fix it!)

Yes! I forgot that I didn’t deactivate the comments section. I went to do that then got stuck down a rabbit hole (as a self-taught web designer, it’s easy for me to do).

Thanks for the reminder. I do have my email and info listed, but I guess people like making comments more? I don’t know, it’s weird, but yes, concerning.

I do recall getting emails but I can’t remember how long ago that was. I should’ve known something was up, but I was busy with referrals via email directly that I didn’t think of checking the website issue.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

These are some good first steps! ?? As you most likely read on other threads, Jetpack, like other plugins, uses a core WordPress feature called wp_mail() to send out the emails. All the emailing process is consequently handled by WordPress itself. That WordPress function, in turn, relies on your server’s emailing functions to send out the emails.

However, sometimes a few things can happen along the way:

    • Your server may start filtering out some of the outgoing emails. It could be because it considers them as spam, or because someone else on your server is sending out a lot of emails for example.
    • Your emails may get sent out, but they never make it to your inbox because your email provider considers them as spam.

That’s where the Postman plugin comes in; it allows you to bypass your server, and go through a different email provider to send out your emails. Which email provider did you use on your site?
Postman also includes logs that should allow you to dig deeper into this, and understand where the emails are getting blocked. Could you take a closer look?

their comments aren’t forwarding to my email either

@drchelseand This indicates that your WordPress installation isn’t able to send out any emails. You can use a plugin like Postman to force your WordPress installation to use a third-party email provider to send out the emails. That should help.

    Thanks Jeremy,

I tried the postman plug in and didn’t have much luck (again, I’m not very in tune with web design, but making it up when I can) – but now I notice there is a plugin (postman extenstion) specifically listing Bluehost (my provider).
I will try that again and keep this thread updated.
    I appreciate the help.

Hey guys, here to report great news.

I uninstalled the postman plugin I tried previously and reinstalled, went through the set up wizard and now having a working contact form that forwards to my email address.
(FYI, I did not use the postman extension plugin).

Jeremy, thanks for your help and your patience.

drchelsea – I really hope it’s an easy fix for you as well!
I’ll mark this topic as resolved with positive vibes your way.

    Cheers. Andi

    Hi again!

It’s back! The same issue – I haven’t changed any settings that should impact my emails.. but after getting some come through I have now just realized there are emails in the feedback tab that do not come to my email.
    This is obviously problematic.

Jeremy, do you have any ideas why this continues to happen after the issue was resolved?
    Thanks!

Could you check your Postman logs to find out more about what’s blocking your emails from being sent?

If you don’t use Postman anymore, could you try to install it and configure it, and let me know if it helps?

Let me know how it goes!

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks. I looked at the email logs – it lists the status as sent and the delivery times – so that is showing the emails going through but none of them end up passed the feedback tab.

Is there something else I should be looking for that could tell you more helpful info?!

none of them end up passed the feedback tab.

Just to be clear: the emails appear in the Feedback tab, but not in your inbox although the emails are reported as sent by your email logs?

If that’s the case, that means your email provider most likely blocks the emails before they reach your inbox, and marks them as spam. To confirm this issue, you could try to send the emails to a different email address at a different email provider, thanks to this option in the contact form builder:
    https://jetpack.com/support/contact-form/#jp-carousel-723

If that helps, it will confirm that your email provider blocks the emails.

Let me know how it goes.

    Thread Starter andi77cip

    (@andi77cip)

    Yes, that is correct.

Would the issue be my provider if they used to come through, and just two weeks ago after having this issue I installed postman (as you suggested) which did work once (I sent myself a test email that came through to my inbox) but now they seem stuck in the feedbacks tab again.

    Arg!

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

I’m afraid I can’t really tell from my end. That mostly depends on your Postman setup, and the provider you now use to send those emails. Do you use a large email provider, like Gmail?

    Thread Starter andi77cip

    (@andi77cip)

Hmmmmm.. now it’s more confusing. Over the weekend I got one out of two of the contact form emails forwarded to the address I provided.
(It was bluehost – it used to work all the time, now it’s at 50%. I just switched the forwarding address to my gmail account – but that didn’t go through at all).

I re-installed the form to change the info and the address.. but it still isn’t working.
… might be a lost cause..?!

I just don’t know what else I can do ??

    Plugin Author Jeremy Herve

    (@jeherve)

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

Updating the Contact Form itself probably won’t help, since the problem is linked to your email setup.

just switched the forwarding address to my gmail account – but that didn’t go through at all).

Do you Postman logs indicate why the emails didn’t go through?

    Thread Starter andi77cip

    (@andi77cip)

    Thanks for your patience Jeremy.
Postman logs indicate the emails were all sent – but they did not make it through to my bluehost account or my gmail account.
