The Name and From fields are not getting set when the form content is emailed, so I can’t reply to the user. Here’s a test email from the above page. I did fill out Name and Email on the form, but it was received as coming from the site, not from me the user.

Hi, does this Ad https://axsysair.com/advert/rv-6a-n535dj/ have the Email field filled? also are you using any filters (specifically adverts_contact_form_email) to customize the contact form email before it is sent?

From the email headers it looks like either the email is not set in the Advert itself or the “to” header was customized using adverts_contact_form_email filter.

BTW. Do you have any plugin which affects the email in some way? If you do you can try disabling it and see if it helps, maybe there is some conflict between WPAdverts and this plugin.

Email field on that ad is set, and that user did receive the email. I changed it to <deleted> in the sample above for privacy. It was the From on that email that was the system, not the respondant.

No filters on email AFAICT. Here’s what installed:

    Akeeba Backup for WordPress
    Black Studio TinyMCE Widget
    Caldera Forms
    Insert Headers and Footers
    Page Builder by SiteOrigin
    Simple Lightbox
    SiteOrigin CSS
    SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle
    W3 Total Cache
    Wordfence Security
    WP Adverts
    – Core
    – Featured Ads
    – Contact Form
    WP Smush

What is the purpose of and what should the setting be for Name & Email in WPAdverts Contact > Contact Form? They’re currently empty.

Hi, ohh sorry, i thought the <deleted> is a problem, the From header you can set from the wp-admin / Classifieds / Options / Contact Form panel in the Name and Email fields.

One other way to do that would be to install some SMTP plugin on your site, it should do two things change the From header in the email and make sure the email sent to users are delivered.

I’m still confused. I expected the behavior to be that the ad owner can reply to the ad guest.

On the contact form, the To is working, the email goes to the ad owner. The Subject and Message are also working. The Your Name and Your Email on the form are not getting turned into the From on the email, so the ad owner can not reply to the user.

If I set From/Name to fixed values in the Options, won’t it still not be the ad user?

    Hi,

do you have realy tested the reply after getting a question from customer? My Contact forms working fine.

I ask, because on my side I receive mails von interest persons. the subject and the message are shown as given from form. The “From” field shows me “wordpress” or if I use a SMTP addon it shows me what i have configured. BUT If I click within my email program to “reply” it shows me the correct email adress to send an answer to the interestet person. Do you have check this?

    Best regards
    Patrick

The From header i set to your WordPress admin email (or SMTP email if you have SMTP delivery configured), when user will receive the message he will see this address in the From section in his email client, however if the user will click a reply button the message will be sent to the email address the person entered in Contact Email field when posting an Ad.

This is because WPAdverts also sets the Reply-To header. This gives the best chances to have the email delivered to Ad poster inbox, if in the From header custom email would be used then the emails will be marked as spam in most of the email clients.
