    Hey Wordfence
I have an issue with contact form not sending autorespond mail to the customer. I would like to test if wordfence is blocking the mail.
How can I temporary disable Wordfence without breaking the site?
    Best regards

Hi @lenesachs, thanks for reaching out to us.

You can see if Wordfence is doing the blocking by consulting your Live Traffic page after trying to submit the contact form. Any blocks and reasons for them will be given here. You could also try a period in Learning Mode.

From the Wordfence Dashboard click on Manage WAF. Then you will see Basic Firewall Options > Web Application Firewall Status. Change the option to Learning Mode. Now try the contact form that was causing the issue. Wordfence may learn that the communications taking place at this time are normal and will allow them in the future. After you have finished testing, make sure to switch the WAF from Learning Mode back to Enabled and Protecting.

If you do wish to disable Wordfence, you should be able to do so from the regular WordPress > Plugins > Installed Plugins page and simply activate it again afterwards.

Let me know how you get on!
    Peter.

    Hey Peter
Many thanks for your reply and very good guidance.
I changed to learning mode, but still the same.
I checked the live traffic page and can only see external hosts plus my own entry (traffic logging mode: Security-related traffic only. Login and firewall activity will appear below.) Or should I look else where?
    Best regards

    Hi @lenesachs,

If there are no blocks triggered in Live Traffic when the contact form submission is made, and you don’t see any Wordfence-branded block pages either at the time of submission in the browser (or your Browser Console if the form is submitted using AJAX), then it may be a good indicator that Wordfence isn’t finding a false-positive.

I would try running the site with no plugins and a default theme (such as Twenty Twenty-Two) – with the exception of the plugin submitting the email if you’re using one for the contact form. If that works, try enabling only Wordfence and see if the problem comes back. Again, if it works enable your others one-by-one followed by your theme to see when the problems come back.

Emails come from your site directly, so here’s some things you can check:

    • The emails (they may come from [email protected]) might be sent to junk mail folders by your email client or provider. Make sure and whitelist or add your website to the list of safe domains so you get emails consistently.
    • Sometimes a restart of postfix or sendmail (whichever is installed on your web server) can fix it. Your hosting provider may need to help with this.
    • If you have a third party plugin for sending emails with another service, like Gmail, it could be stopping these alerts from going out. Reaching out to the plugin author for support can help.

    Thanks again,
    Peter.
