• Very, very new to WP.

Working on the above page that is not live yet.

Trying to figure out the CT7. I have it on my contact page and it looks exactly like what we want for now.

I just can’t figure out where I need to put in the email address that the contact info gets sent to when you hit the (Contact Us) button.

I’m sure it is a simple item. Just not seeing it.

    Thanks

    Bob

  • Hello @davet354tfd,

I tested the form you place on the URL you provided, but I’m afraid that isn’t a CF7 form.

Please read Setting up mail to learn more about this subject.

    Best regards,
    Yordan.

Thanks for the reply. I saw your test in the “Feed Back” area of WP.

I will have to see what it is and change it.

    Thanks

Can you show me where to go to put the Contact 7 form on my contact page and how to set it up to have it send the emails to an email address or addresses of my choice?

Like I said I am very, very new to WP and learning every day.

Figured out how to put it in. Just need to figure out how to send the emails to where we want them to go.

That is what I was looking for thanks.

Now just to confirm a few things. In the Mail tab, all I have to do is put in the email address I want the contact form sent to into the “To” field correct?

Once I do that and save it, will I be able to test it without the site/page being live?

    Thanks

    Bob

    Hello @davet354tfd,

That’s right: the To field is the address where the mail will be sent. When you set the To email address, you’ll be able to perform tests with your site under maintenance. If your site is in a local environment (a local computer) you need to use a local mail server too.

Please see Setting up mail to learn more.

    Best regards,
    Yordan.

I have the correct email address in the TO spot.

When I go to the page and view it, the contact form is there and looks good.

I type in all the info and hit send and I get this error:

“There was an error trying to send your message. Please try again later.”

    Have I missed something??

This site is on an AWS server. We have not made it live yet but I can see the pages like they were live.
Why is the contact form not functioning?

    Bob

    Hello @davet354tfd,

Do you have a mail server configured on your server?

Contact Form 7 manages the handling of the submissions from your forms, but not the emails. You need to connect your site to an external mail server if your web server doesn’t have one configured.

If you indeed don’t have a mail server, you can use a third party SMTP services, or even a Gmail address to set up the Gmail Mailer. You can use a plugin in order to set up SMTP on your WordPress Install. I recommend WP Mail SMTP, because it’s well documented to configure any of the provider it supports, although you can choose any other SMTP plugins from WP.org directory.

    Best regards,
    Yordan.

Been following the help instructions and any videos I can find on setting up this SMTP using our gmail address only. (not G Suite).

Get to a certain point and I get this error on the API & Services page:

“You do not have sufficient permission to view this page.”

    Now I am stuck.

    Bob

    Hello @davet354tfd,

I have two questions for you:

    1. Are you getting that message within WordPress or Google? If you get this on WordPress, please check your user role is Administrator.

    2. Do you install WP Mail SMTP or are you using another SMTP plugin for WordPress?

    Best regards,
    Yordan.

    Yordan:

    1. Getting these messages from WP: “PHPmailer was able to connect to SMTP Serve but failed while tyring to send email. I am getting this when I try and test the form: “There was an error trying to send your message. Please try again later.”

    2. I installe WP mail SMTP. During the setup of the google on the Google API Services page I get this error: “You do not have sufficient permission to view this page.” As far as I can tell, I cannot get it set up totally till I can get past this error and put in all of what I need in WP mail SMTP.

This site is set up on AWS. Do they have an outgoing SMTP server that I can use? (will dig into that). If AWS has this for outgoing only, that is probably the way we should go since they are hosting all of this.

    Thanks for your patients.

    Bob

    Hello @davet354tfd,

    1. I searched a video tutorial on YouTube and find this useful video: How to Send Email in WordPress using the Gmail SMTP Server. Please watch it and let me know if work.

    2. If I’m not wrong (I’m not an AWS user), the AWS servers must be contracted separately. So, if you paid for a web server, you need to contact the mail server as another service. See Amazon Simple Email Service.

    Best regards,
    Yordan.
