  • I have the same exact issue occuring on not one, but two different websites. Both are hosted with different companies (GoDaddy, and Bluehost) and all are very different wordpress setups. Some have WooCommerce, some don’t. The common thing is that a week ago, everything was working (the last time I personally tested each form; I’m not sure of the exact moment it stopped working). Now, unfortunately, this error message appears on each one of the two contact forms. Funny thing is, the emails actually are going through. So the person trying to fill out the form thinks it doesn’t work, when it does, in fact, email.

I have not changed any settings, and each form goes to an email that matches the domain name. Disabling all plugins but Contact Form 7 does not clear up the issue.

It’s also interesting to note that on my dreamhosted sites, this is not happening.

I worked through the posted article by Buzz and see if anything helped, but unfortunately I’ve hit a wall. I’ll reply with an update if I figure it out.

We had our website name in the From field. Using the default [your-name]<[your-email]> in the From field worked for us.

We confirmed the issue was not related to any other plugins, Mod_security, or the the Mail (2) option.

Please note that some users may have issues with the default [your-name]<[your-email]> in the From field.

This is pointed out in buzztone’s Contact Form 7 Email Issues.

My From: field has always been the default. Changing it to custom text also did not resolve the issue for my two installations.

Thanks for the suggestion though! I’ll keep poking around the error logs in the hopes that might shed some light on the matter.

We’re having the same issue. It seems sometimes the forms work and sometimes they don’t. It always works when I test it. Our sites are hosted on Flywheel. In one instance, the 2nd email (an autoresponder to the sender) was sent out, but the first email was not. We’ve had clients calling us saying that they’ve sent us three or four emails and never heard back from us (cringe)!

We do have WP Spam Shield installed but looking at their logs, I don’t see any false positives/negatives.

    Help!

@laura – if you are still having problems, you should in your own post (hijacking another’s post is generally considered inappropriate – see Forum Welcome) provide a link to your CF7 form and all your input in both the Form section and Mail section of the CF7 interface.

RE: I’ll reply with an update if I figure it out.

Please don’t – this just tends to confuse people reading these posts. From the info provided it’s clear that your problem is different from the OPs and as such needs a unique solution which will not apply to everyone else.

Hi we have had this happen on multiple sites since the last wordpress update or so, – nothing changed with the forms themselves.

@snixx – Some new rules released for mod_security alongside the latest release of WordPress appear to have tightened many hosts email sending restrictions. Make sure your From: email is a valid email address – preferably one on your website domain.

While you may have got away with almost anything on the From: field in the past, this is no longer allowed on many hosts.

    @buzztone:

Sorry, I didn’t mean to muck things up. I thought it might have been useful to know that one email was being sent but not another.

And thank you for taking the time to do that write-up, it’ very useful.

My apologies. You can see from my activity that I rarely post on these forums – I did not realize trying to solve someone else’s similar problem alongside my own on a thread was considered hijacking.
