• Hi,

I have a few years running a blog (by the time i started i knew nothing about wordpress or blogging, etc) and i feel i have learned a lot but it’s time for others to tell me what my site is lacking of.

Even though my site is in spanish, i’d like you all to go to my site: https://be-openminded.com

And tell me what you think about it: color combination, font (sizes, color, thickness), site structure, etc. all you can think is alright or wrong about my site will be appreciated.

If you understand spanish you’re welcome to criticize my articles as well =D

NOTE: this is not spam and i’m not trying to make my website more popular by linking it here (i built it for fun and as a way to learn), i just want to know what other people think about it ??

Edit: Fixed my comment and drinking more coffee!
That’s good since that’s actually the text book definition of “SPAM”. ??

Looking for reviews and feedback is fine. The colors are nice BTW but I found the menu font on top a little narrow.

You’re missing level 2 and 3 headings for each post on the home page.
For example the first post goes from a level 1 heading,

.K. Rowling prepara nueva saga del mundo...

    To a level 4 heading,

Más de este inesperado proyecto de J.K. Rowling...

Different level headings help people, that cannot see the website who use assistive technologies, to understand relationships between content that may otherwise be difficult to identify. A cognitive model of the page can be constructed by the heading level structure.

When there are gaps between heading levels these people can become confused as to whether they’ve accidentally skipped too much content and landed on a level 4 heading, when they were expecting a level 2 or 3 heading. This can disrupt people’s cognitive model of the page.

To resolve this you could fill in the gaps by creating level 2 and 3 headings, but that may be too difficult to maintain consistently across all posts. Or you could just not use a level 4 heading after the level 1 heading. I was thinking you could switch to a level 2 heading instead, but that level 4 heading does not actually head/ title any content so it doesn’t need to be a heading at all.

    Hi Andrew,

First of all thank you for the advice!

Now, the level 1 heading is without any doubt necessary, any other size looks way too small for the heading, and yes it’s true that heading 2 and 3 are not there, but until now i just used it as an aesthetic way to “format” my articles, you might have notice that every article in the blog uses the same format and that the level 4 heading is used to separate the introduction (which might have some of what i call repeated content, necessary for the-frequent- reader to actually evaluate whether to read or not the article from the homepage) from the rest of the article
From the aesthetic point of view, creating a level 2 heading first and then a level 3 and so on, would look horrible and weird :S

i’ve been studying some SEO (and i’m trying to start applying it in my blog) and i always read about headings and its importance but until now i didn’t get the importance, now, that i got it, i don’t know what to do.
i could eliminate the lvl 4 heading but then it wouldn’t look so good, could you give me some other advise on how to solve this?

    thank you very much!!

    Hi Alejandro,

For me your background colour is distracting and overall the website design seems outdated. It’s not bold and doesn’t grab your attention.

I like your uses of photos, you are very good at selecting images that really grab your attention.

If you had a background image/colour/style that framed them more effectively I believe your images and text would stand out more.
