• I am constantly fighting with DreamHost who blames the scripts of WordPress. The software is supposed to be easy to use. It’s been running for years but always with problems. There have only been a few good months out of my entire time running WP where I haven’t had problems.

    1. Logging into the dashboard keeps telling me I don’t have cookies enabled when I definitely do. I always have to log in twice since the latest update.

    2. Navigating anywhere once the dash decides to open either takes forever or times out.

    3. If I get the chance to open a post to draft, I can’t add images because they also either error (with some kind of HTML error & option to dismiss) or don’t load at all. I have a library and it won’t load. Uploading new won’t work.

Every time I go through DreamHost support they only care about selling me on VPS which my tiny site with < 1000 hits per day does not need. Clearly there is a disconnect between WP and DH.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

What version of WordPress are you using?

I can’t even navigate around the dashboard enough to answer any of that.

I tried to rename and reset the plugins directory but it hasn’t changed anything.

And the rest of the suggested steps?

Unless I can do it through FTP, it times out. I was able to delete 2 of the unused themes that I had tested but not the TwentyTwelve theme.

    Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

That definitely helped something. My login finally works again. It’s still crazy slow trying to click in the dashboard. Ex: All I’m doing from step one is login, click Posts. It takes me to a url that says “edit.php” but it isn’t. It’s my home page as published.

So are you now running the 2013 theme with no active plugins?

I’m running a theme called GoodThemes with some plugins which are constantly updated.

You really need to carry out the entire troubleshooting process – deactivating ALL plugins and switching to a default theme – that helps identify what may be causing these issues.

Well I tried to delete them through FTP and they won’t go away. No idea what else to do at this point if I can’t use the dashboard.

What’s your domain, amber? I work for DreamHost and I’d like to take a look to see if maybe I can find something. If you’re deleting the plugin folder and they’re not going away, you may have a bigger problem.

I finally got to login. I deleted all the deactivated plugins completely. Deactivated the used ones and reactivated them. Things are still really slow. But I finally got my media library to load and allow me to insert 2 images so far.

Trying to get a 3rd image up is giving errors again.
