Consent mode for free version (is it even possible)?
-
Hi,
I really like the interface of your plugin, and I have tried to configure it on my website. However, in terms og legal compliance, I must make sure that your plugin actually does what is most important: firing cookies/tags based on user consent.
It’s fine that Complianz generates the cookie policy, but it’s more important that the plugin/cookie pop-up actually lives up to the regulations (meaning that it actually store cookies/fire tags based on the user’s cookie accept).
My setup: I have Complianz free version and it is integrated with my Google Tag Manager. Inside my Google Tag Manager, I have 3 tags (GA4, Facebook Pixel, and a conversion tracking tag for another software).
I need to know what to do in the free version to be complete GDPR compliant. Should I “Enable Consent Overview” (beta) inside the Google Tag Manager container settings (see here)? What more should I do?
You provide 2 articles on this consent topic, and it is hard to understand what to do when I have a Google Tag Manager setup – which one should I follow?
- This link says that I should “Import the Complianz triggers/variables in your Tag Manager container” from here: https://complianz.io/importing-tag-manager-container/
- In this case, the GA4 tag and conversion tag would belong to your statistics trigger, and the Facebook Pixel would belong to your marketing trigger, right?

- This link says “you will need to configure your Tags for Consent Mode and remove current custom events”
So, I would love to know what exactly to do. Because taking consent into consideration is the only way to be compliant with GDPR. Without consent, the Complianz plugin cannot be used to meet the regulations…
