• Hello, I am managing a wordpress multi-site and over the last several months have been encountering a very strange issue.

Everyday, when working within the admin section, I will lose connection to the site on my local network for exactly 30 minutes. I get the “Err Connection Timeout” message.

This typically happens if I click on any buttons, go to any links, etc. Basically anything I do can cause this site to lose connection.

Oddly enough, this only happens on the local network and I can bring up the site fine on my phone or any other device not connected to the wifi.

This isn’t just local to me either. This is a franchise site and several franchise owners have reported the same exact issue in different parts of the world.

When this happens, I am unable to access the cpanel or FTP. Anything associated with the site’s IP address I am blocked from.

I wait 30 minutes, and boom! The site comes back up.

But, as soon as I go and click on anything, down it goes.

This client is using a dedicated server at GoDaddy. I have contacted GoDaddy several times on this issue but they can never find any issues on their end.

PHP and wordpress are all up to date.

Anyone else ever encounter such an issue?

Yes, the quick fix? Throw more horsepower or maybe a different server at the problem.

You didn’t include a link to the site so I couldn’t look deeper but you might try using a different server for DNS also. Sometimes that will cure the problem as you mention that 30 minute time frame. I wonder what the DNS TTL is set to as that would affect the local ‘DNS resolver’.

Cloudflare’s DNS server might be a good idea.

If that server is heavily loaded you might want to do something about that, too.

Thanks for the reply! I called Godaddy again this morning after encountering the issue and they saw my IP actually being added to the IP Tables List for some reason, which was causing the block. They removed it but they aren’t sure what keeps adding it there since they disabled Fail2Ban on the server.
