• I have been having a problem for the past week and was wondering if anyone had suggestions. My web site https://stacyjuba.com/blog/ works fine when I go to access it, however my dashboard is giving me major problems. Whenever I try to update a post, add a new post or make a change, I get bumped off the dashboard and receive the following message:

    The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network
    connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

It happens when I hit Preview or Publish, and sometimes when I am trying to open a new page or post. I was hacked recently with malware script, however I hired Sucuri to clean that up and it tests clean now.

My feeling is there is a problem with my server but Go Daddy said there wasn’t. They suggested optimizing my database to clean it up, so I am looking into that, (I need to see if I can get the passwords from the designer who last worked on my site) but I don’t understand why it would be working fine then suddenly be virtually unusable. They suggested a few plug ins to speed things up, but none of them are compatible with 3.6

I would say this happened almost immediately after updating to 3.6. Would returning to an older version of WordPress help, and is that even possible? Any other ideas?

  • Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all other plugins deactivated?

Thanks, Esmi. I have all plug ins deactivated now and it is still happening with my current theme. What would happen if I activated the Twenty Thirteen theme? When I preview it my banner and colors are gone and my navigation bar has lots of things I don’t need there. I wouldn’t be opposed to changing themes as I am not in love with my current theme (not many choices for links in navigation bar etc) but I don’t think I have the technical knowledge to get it looking the way I’d want it unless it is really simple to customize. Could it be related to my theme not meshing well with 3.6?

Your site would simply use that theme’s layout & colours temporarily. Nothing would be permanently lost. This is just the start of basic troubleshooting and is a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps.
