    Hi,

Yes, App ID doesn’t match anything and can be left blank. “Client secret” on Eventbrite is the API Secret in WordPress, while the grey sequence under Keys in Eventbrite is used for the API Key.

You can see a better step-by-step walkthrough here, that should help: https://automattic.github.io/eventbrite-api/users.html

Let us know if anything is still confusing.

Yes, that’s the sheet I’m working from. I figured I’d start over today.

So I deleted both plugins and all their associated files, and started from scratch, re-installing both the Eventbrite API and the Keyring plugin. I am logged into my Eventbrite account in another tab.

From my WP Dashboard, when I click the “Add New Connection” and click “Eventbrite” in the list, I get this:

The application you’re trying to use has made an invalid request to Eventbrite. Please contact the application developer.

BTW, on my “Add New Connection” screen, I have two links:

    Eventbrite (Manage)

I am clicking “Eventbrite” as instructed. Perhaps “(Manage)” is there because it “knows” I’m logged into Eventbrite(?)

So I just got this connected. On your EventBrite App Management screen it should look like:

    APP Name KEYS ACTIONS
    Something RANDOMSTRING links

That RANDOMSTRING is your API Key.

Click Show Client secret and copy the really long string for Client Secret into API Secret.

Make sure that App ID is blank.

Click on Save changes. The go back to Keyring (left menu bar Tools > Keyring). Click on Add New. Then it will say Eventbrite (Manage). Click on the “EventBrite” text. That will take you to a new webpage asking you to click on the green authorize button. Once you do that, you’ll be connected.

Thank you anphira. I’m still getting the error message when I click “Eventbrite” in Keyring:

The application you’re trying to use has made an invalid request to Eventbrite. Please contact the application developer.

    Hi boomcycle,

Are you still having this issue? If so, by any chance do you have multiple Eventbrite.com accounts? This can happen if using the keys from one account to try and connect while logged into another, different account.

Nope, just one account. Yes, the problem persists. Just tried it the other day again after logging out and then logging back in.

I even cleared all my cookies in my browser and re-logged into Eventbrite. Can anybody help?

Hi boomcycle, I just noticed this error also happens if the OAuth Redirect URI doesn’t match properly (step 3 under Connecting to Eventbrite in the setup instructions); can you verify that for us?

Hmmm…using Chrome, I clicked the “Add a new connection” in Keyring (which had never displayed any working connections), then clicked “Eventbrite”…then logged in. Magically, it’s all working now.

I see a proper External ID in Keyring and clicking “Test” says: “This connection is working correctly.” I assigned the Eventbrite template to a page and events are displaying. Wow!

I guess all’s well that ends well but…I don’t know what was wrong. Apparently my setup was correct but something was…stuck(?)

There have been times when something glitches on the Eventbrite end during authorization, but they’re relatively rare. It’s not very satisfying to have auth not work one day, and then work the next, it doesn’t explain a lot ?? Once in, though, it’s quite stable.

    Glad you’re up and running!

i too am having this issue
in summary I have installed Eventbrite API
Then on WordPress it says in the Dashboard ‘The Eventbrite API plugin needs a working connection to eventbrite.com. We recommend first logging in to your eventbrite.com account. Connect to Eventbrite.’
Fair enough – i click on Connect to Eventbrite which brings me to the Keyring Page where it says Add new connection
Fair enough – i click on Eventbrite and then it takes me to the log in page for Eventbrite whereupon I log in and comes up with ‘The application you’re trying to use has made an invalid request to Eventbrite. Please contact the application developer.’
sometimes when i log in it asks me to create an event (which i have done already frustratingly–i just want to include said events in wordpress)

    anyone have any suggestions?

Hi misefreisin, if you’re still having this issue, please start your own thread. You can just copy/paste if you like. Thanks!
