Connecting Google To Publicize causes weird characters to appear in user name

When I connect my Google+ profile to the Publicize module in Jetpack my name suddenly gains an a backslash which shouldn’t exist. Not only does that backslash occur in the Google+ area that is added below the share buttons, but it also changes how my name appears in the meta area at the top of the post.
