Connecting existing translations
-
- your permalinks settings: year, month and name
- if you are using a static front page: no
- your Polylang settings: Don’t know what really is required, so I’ll list all.
- default language: Dutch
- URLs: The language is set from content // Checkbox on ‘hiding URL’ checked (don’t know the exact english wording) // Remove /language/ in pretty permalinks
- Checkboxes on browser language and media are checked
My question has already been resolved in previous posts I found here and here, but I don’t really understand the answers.
Basically, for a number of posts I already have the post in default language (Dutch) and second language (English), before I installed this plugin. I would now like these post to be linked as translations of one another.
I already tried the following: Clicked to edit the existing English post (= secondary language). On the top right I have the language box, showing (1) Language: English; (2) Translations: Dutch flag with plus sign and empty text box.
In this text box I tried typing the title of the existing, matching Dutch post, pasted the full URL, pasted the post id, pasted the short URL, and other possible URLs or abbreviations thereof.
Each time I briefly see a little loading pictogram in the text box. When I then click ‘update post’, the text I filled out disappears and there is no sign of existing posts being linked. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
