Connecting contact form 7 to external database?

I use contact form 7 for all WordPress site forms but I have one site where the client wants to create their own database and have a new form on the site connect to it. Is there anyway to use contact form 7 to do this? I’ve done some research and I see an old plug in that might achieve this but I didn’t know if there is a current effective way to simply do this? They are asking if they should be designing the database in MS Access? Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, Excel?

I always use Flamingo as a way to back up form inquiries and see them in the WordPress backend but I still don’t know how to connect a CF7 form to a database built elsewhere and how that person should build the database. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
