    I don’t understand one thing about this plugin

    Why is needed to connect via API if then we are adding the tracking code?

    What’s the purpose of connecting?

    By connection, WP-Matomo is able to get the tracking code from Matomo, and it displays your WordPress stats within your WordPress dashboard.

    This is what this plugin is intended for, adding the tracking code is an additional feature to make the integration easier for people who don’t want to integrate the tracking code manually.
