Confused with Theme's Global Options settings and Reading Settings

Hi,

I’ve been changing the following settings and can’t seem to make it work the way I want, I hope you can help me get unstuck.
I would like my home page (which is set to News/blog posts) to show a WHOLE Post (not just a few lines of one post and then grids of others like it’s been doing) and then below it I’d like to show the “grid” of maybe a couple of posts, and then below those the links “Read more posts here” – something like that.
I changed the settings in Global settings, I tried multiple things: static links, ajax links, infinite scroll. I definitely don’t want infinite scroll. I also tried “settings/reading settings” and I have it at [blog pages show at most “2 blog posts”]. If I put all the settings across both options to 1 blog post, I still don’t get a FULL post on my news page which is my Blog page “most recent posts”. Is this just not an option with the theme?
