• Howdy. I need to create a test site and I’ve created a subdomain for that. I’ve gone ahead and installed wordpress onto the subdomain. But, I was just reading that I should have created the database first?

For the subdomain I don’t want to use the same database as my live site. I just want this test site so I can test any updates before I put it on the live site.

So, I’m using UpDraftPlus for my backups and now I’m confused as to the order I should be doing these things.

Also, (assuming I can get the first thing done), I have my backup files sent to a Yahoo! email account. I found that I was unable to download the plugins backup. I downloaded the rest, but I can’t get the plugins to download. I even did a fresh backup to see if it was just a faulty file, but with the new backup I was unable to download the plugin backup. So, can I just reinstall all the plugins one by one? And when do I do that?

    Thanks.

I think you are making it unnecessarily complicated.

Just install another instance of WP (in separate directory onto the subdomain in your case).

Create database with different name and install the WordPress. It will then populate that new database. Simple.

In other words just repeat the same process you did for your live site.
