Ok, I installed, added the API, added my IP (white list) .. now what?

My hosting provider says my site is being hammered… I see no speed improvement, how do I know BruteProtect is working? should my htaccess file be growing with blocked IP’s? or does cloud based mean I do not see this? How long do I have to wait before site speed improvements happen? perhaps it is just a matter of time?

If you could explain a little about how the plugin works, I may vote for it and keep … otherwise she gone tomorrow.

    Thanks!

    Hello,
Correct – the cloud powered part means that we catalog the blocked IP addresses and they’re blocked across all sites using the plugin. It would not change your htaccess file. You should see the count rising fairly quickly in the Dashboard widget. If your site is being hammered, you may still see some slowing down, there’s just no way around it during those times. Hope you kept us around, but no hard feelings if you didn’t! There more sites that use, the better other sites are protected.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

So no further action is required to get BruteProtect working.

I should mention that BruteProtect can not stop people from attempting to brute force your website. During a brute force attack, your server will likely become very slow, and BruteProtect is not the right tool to speed up your site.

A brute force attack is only successful if it results in the attacker gaining the username and password to your website. BruteProtect will stop them from getting that information, but it cannot stop them from trying to get it.

If your site is experiencing large amounts of attempts, you should talk to your server administrator or hosting provider to see if there are other tools that could help you.
