• Hi Folks,

New here and super confused about the setup.

In the To field, I’ve entered a gmail address, to which I want my submissions directed.

In the from field, I tried to put [your-email], assuming that this was the email entered by the sender of the form. However, I get “Sender email address does not belong to the site domain.” as an error message

I’ve read the supporting documentation, but I am still confused on what to enter in the From field.

    Help greatly appreciated.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello @perkinz,

This is because the email address entered by the user there will be unlikely the same that your site.

The recommendation is to use an email address with your domain site in the From field and putting the submitter email address input in your Additional headers field, this way:

Recommended Mail tab settings for Contact Form 7

See Why does the email address in the From field have to belong to the site domain?

    Best regards,
    Yordan.

Thank you for your reply. But, I still don’t understand.

I don’t have a working email with the domain site. Does that matter?

    What is “[email protected]”?

And, why is “Site Title” included there?

    I remain confused.

    Hello @perkinz,

I don’t have a working email with the domain site. Does that matter?

If your site don’t use an SMTP plugin, it will work, even if you don’t have an actual email address with your site domain.

On the other hand, [_site_title] is a special mail tag that will print your site title.

    Best regards,
    Yordan.

Thank you. I’ve set it up as you suggest, but I am not receiving email submissions from the form.

    How do I fix this?

    Hello @perkinz,

Could you please share a screenshot from your Mail tab content?

You can use an image upload service like Imgur to upload your screenshot.

    Best regards,
    Yordan.

    Hello @perkinz,

Try using this value in the From field:
    [_site_title] <[email protected]>

And this one as Additional headers value:
    Reply-To: [your-email]

    Best regards,
    Yordan.

    Thank you, Yordan.

I entered those settings. When I click “submit” I get “message was sent” on screen, but I do not receive the submitted email.

Any ideas on what else I could do/try?

    Hello @perkinz,

If you have an actual email address on your To field and still don’t receive the message on submission, maybe your mail server has some restriction for unauthenticated email sending.

My recommendation is to use SMTP whenever possible. This method not only is more reliable, but also more secure.

You can set up SMTP on WordPress using a plugin, there are several free options available, but first I recommend you watch this video tutorial for more details: How To Setup WordPress SMTP For Sending Emails.

    Hope this helps you.

    Best regards,
    Yordan.

    Hi Yordan,

I set up a SMTP plugin and it works with a form plugin called Formidable Forms, but it still does not work with Contact Form.

Tried sending test email from each form, FF works, but CF does not.

CF is much prettier and I’d rather use that, but I cannot get it to work.

    Thanks for your ongoing efforts.
