• I’ve been using Gutenberg all along and haven’t had much trouble. However, when I updated to WordPress 5.0, my editor looks quite different. It doesn’t function the same way the blocks were functioning before the update. In fact, it looks a lot like the classic editor which I don’t want.

QUESTION: Do I still need to install the gutenberg plugin now that I’ve upgraded to WordPress 5.0?

QUESTION: Is it possible to totally get rid of anything that resembles the old classic editor? I’m really hoping that there will be a new update soon to address that.

    Thank you for your help!

  • Can you share a screenshot of what you’re seeing?

Agreed with Jacob… think you have a plugin issue maybe? Updating should have disabled the Gutenberg plugin because Gutenberg is now built in. Need screenshot.

Lord! I’ve got the screenshot saved on my desktop (Mac) as a png file but can’t figure out how to get the image to show up here for you.

use imgur.com – then post the link

Looks like you still have a classic plugin turned on?

1 – Look for that and deactivate it.
2 – IF Gutenberg Plugin is active – try turning it off too.

Might be worth posting a screenshot of your plugins page. I am guessing your theme is compatible with Gutenberg as it has worked previously.

I think it just a Gutenberg block. If you look under the formatting block there is a block for Classic. I have several posts that look the same. It just placed the content of the old post that was written with the old editor into the new Gutenberg classic formatting block.

    That is the Classic Block.

Any posts you wrote in the old editor, without blocks, will look like this when you go to edit them. Basically, it shows the whole post in a single Classic Block.

If you make a new post, you will get the block editor without any blocks in it, waiting for you to start typing into it.

Note that you can convert those old Classic Blocks into new blocks by clicking the three dots menu on that classic block and selecting Convert to Blocks. This may mess it up if you have complicated HTML code in them and such, but for your more basic posts, it works fine.

Hi @nswriter123 – there’s a chance you might be experiencing similar to these users if you have the TinyMCE Advanced plugin active:
