    You’re not missing anything. Only the admin of the main site can modify the Directory, so the Sites menu is only shown in the main site’s admin. That’s by design, not a mistake.

    You can still display the Directory on a subsite, but edits can only be made by the admin of the main site.

    I understand the logic of the edit limit.

    On the subsides you can display a list of sites that are links, but no descriptions? And they aren’t in the menu at all?

    (Sorry if that’s documented, I missed it or got myself confused)

    You didn’t miss anything, I have failed to document the shortcode options. ??

    You’re correct, there is no way to use the [site-directory] shortcode to show site directory entry descriptions. Maybe there should be?

    The descriptions of a site entry in the directory can be exposed to users, but at the moment you need to use a theme that displays post content in its archive listing templates.

    You can get a bit more information about this from the FAQ page entry headlined “How do I customize the directory?”
