• Hello there,

I love the idea of this plugin, see it’s very popular and want to use it! However, I have successfully installed Subscribe2 which I understand it needs to function correctly and now when I try to install the Follow plugin I get the following error:

“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class s2class in /var/www/vhosts/helenjbeal.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/follow/follow.php on line 55″

Please note that I had previously successfully installed and activated the Follow plugin but it was causing a conflict that was making the activation of the installed Subscribe2 plugin fail – and I understand the Follow plugin won’t work without it?

Please refer to this discussion thread in the support forum:

Help here would be very much appreciated!

    Thanks, Helen

I also wanted to mention that I just tested this on another site – carapacebooks.co.uk and am getting the same errors…

I’ve installed the plugin without installing subscribe2 before, and its working ok.

What did you use where the instruction tell you to point it at a page with an S2 button to make it work?

After installing the plugin, when I go to add a post or a page, I have a S2 button (yellow) in my toolbar. I used it to create the [blogname]\subscribe page, it adds the shortcode for the subscribe/unsubscribe form.

It appears that the author of this plugin is trying to incorporate functionality from other plugins into this one, but keeping the other plugin’s function names unchanged, resulting in a redeclaration error.

Later versions of this plugin are incompatible with the “Exclude Pages” plugin for that reason. (See my comments under How does a subscribed user unsubscribe or unfollow? in this plugin’s support forum.) Stepping back to version 10.0.3 of this plugin avoids that conflict, so you might want to try stepping back to an older version and see what happens. (Keep in mind the potential for security issues with older versions of any plugin!)

Version 10.0.3 worked for me without requiring the Subscribe2 plugin.

It appears the author has gone MIA — possibly because his “fixes” just led to more support issues. Too bad, because this plugin has potential…

Thanks guys – I just tried it again on it’s own and I think I could nearly have used it – if I hadn’t added index.php to my page titles to enable me to have words instead of letters because I couldn’t get into the codex to change the writability of something or other I forget now ;-)… still looking for a solution but dammit I like that Follow button.
