We’re building out a new site that is still in the very early construction stages. It’s using Sitemile’s Walleto theme and currently has 6 basic plugins.

Access to the backend was working fine until we installed Wordfence and then we couldn’t log into the backend anymore and these error messages appeared:

Warning: Parameter 1 to wordfence::authActionNew() expected to be a reference, value given in /home/ibuysfak/public_html/shop/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php on line 298

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /home/ibuysfak/public_html/shop/wp-includes/class-wp-hook.php:298) in /home/ibuysfak/public_html/shop/wp-includes/pluggable.php on line 893

We turned Wordfence off and the error messages went away – we turned it back on and the messages reappeared.

Any suggestions on what we can do to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys has anyone actually looked at this problem yet?

Disappointing – nearly 3 days and no reply.

    Hi @stuartinoz,
This is a premium theme so I didn’t have the chance to check this issue on one of my installations, however, I noticed that “wordfence” was referenced in the first PHP warning only, and I’m pretty sure this warning is related to the others, so please take a look at “How do I solve the Headers already sent warning problem?“.

Also, let me know your current version of PHP running on your server for further investigation, we recommend running version 5.6 or greater and WordPress recommends version 7 or greater.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the response – I’m fairly sure the version of PHP will be greater than 5.6 but I’ll check that and the link you suggested.

However there are very few plugins in the site as we are still building it out and currently twiddling our thumbs waiting for an SSL certificate and ALL the error messages go away as soon as we turn Wordfence off.

Upgrading to PHP5.6 fixed the problems – thanks for your help.
