• I’ve got a couple of sites that are using Easy Table of Contents plugin, and after the server was updated to PHP 7+ the plugin started causing issues on the site, including rendering duplicate and incomplete titles on the page, messing with page styles.
Here’s what’s running on my sites:

    Easy TOC Version: 1.7

    PHP Version: 7.1.27

    WordPress Version: 5.1.1

    Genesis Version: 2.9.1

    Dynamik Version: 2.5.3

So what is happening is that when the Easy Table of Contents plugin is activated, on pages where the TOC appears all sorts of weird things happen.

You can see the problems on this page.

If I deactivate all plugins except the TOC one, it doesn’t help, the problem persists.

If I downgrade to PHP 5.6, the problem goes away. So I’m not sure if there is a problem with the plugin + PHP 7+?

You can view the issue on the live site here, a page with more than 4 headings and a table of content being inserted:

I heard back from Studiopress support, and they’re saying:

Genesis outputs some additional markup in the page content that causes the regular expression code in the Easy Table of Contents plugin to break.

Not sure if there is something that can be done about this – as Genesis is a pretty common framework/child theme system.

Hi there. We experience the same type of problems. It seems not compatible with WP blocks. Have you found a solution or alternative yet?

    regards, Amand
