When the “Anyone can register” option is checked and your plugin’s “Disable ‘anyone can register'” setting is enabled, the “Anyone can register” option is blocked from being enabled in Settings -> General by your plugin code.

Many users have deactivated our User Registration plugin because it relies on the “Anyone can register” setting being enabled, which is not possible when the “Disable ‘anyone can register'” option is active under Settings -> SSL & Security -> Settings -> Hardening -> Basic. Providing a clear instruction in your plugin about why the “Anyone can register” setting cannot be enabled, or a disclaimer under Settings -> General -> Anyone can Register settings, explaining that it cannot be enabled until the “Disable ‘anyone can register'” option is disabled under Settings -> SSL & Security -> Settings -> Hardening -> Basic, would help users understand the issue and take the necessary steps.

This issue may impact other plugins like ours that depend on user registration functionality. Therefore, we kindly request that you adjust the “Disable ‘anyone can register'” setting to ensure it does not interfere with WordPress core functionality.

    Hi @iamprazol,

thank you for your suggestion. We agree with your suggestions. We plan on creating an integration with your plugin that will disable the option in Really Simple SSL completely and leave the ‘Anyone can register’ option in the general settings untouched if your plugin is detected. Besides that, we will add a clarifying text below the ‘Anyone can register’ option with an explanation if the option is controlled by Really Simple SSL.

    Hi @iamprazol,

We will include your suggestions in a future release of the plugin to account for plugins that rely on this functionality.

I will mark this thread as resolved for the time being; but if you have any further questions about this, feel free to send us another message.

    Kind regards, Jarno
