I was testing this plugin as an alternative to Contact Form 7 on a local multisite installation. Unfortunately, I’m getting a blank page whenever I attempt to create a new form. After a lot of deactivating and slowly re-activating, I discovered the problem plugin was Block Bad Queries. This plugin is designed to be a firewall of sorts and prevent malicious URL requests. There are no settings for me to fiddle with, it’s purely a plug and play.

  • Hey there, @lizote!

We’ve downloaded and activated Block Bad Queries, but we couldn’t find any issues when creating new forms or editing existing ones. Would you help us investigate by sharing additional details?

    1. Are you running the free BBQ version or the paid one?
    2. Is your page completely blank, or you can see parts of your UI?
    3. Do you have any access to your server PHP logs, so we can look for errors?

    Let us know your findings!

    1. I am using the free version of BBQ
    2. Page is completely blank, no UI.
    3. MAMP has logs, but they are all dated prior to this issue. No new logs appear when I go through the process. I’ve turned on error reporting in php.ini, but I’m not seeing anything there either. Really strange.

Since it’s a local site I don’t mind having BBQ off just for testing HappyForms, but I’m not sure if this will be an issue if I decide to use this plugin on a production site with BBQ enabled.

    Thank you, @lizote!

Amazed at the amount of troubleshooting you did already! That surely speeds up our investigation. ?? I totally understand your doubts about usage in production, too.

The reason I asked for logs, is that completely white pages are often the result of a 500/fatal error. Since there’s none of that in your logs, let’s check elsewhere:

    1. Would you open your Javascript console while you’re on your white page, and share any errors you see there?
    2. Would you look at your white page HTML source, and share that too?

That should hopefully tell us something more about this mysterious issue. Let us know your findings!

I think I’ve discovered the issue. BBQ apparently thinks the localhost url is problematic. I switched browsers after not getting any console errors or being able to view the HTML page source for the blank page. That’s when I finally got a “403 access to localhost denied” error when trying to create a new form.

So I decided to try it on a hosted site with BBQ enabled to see if I would get any errors. I was able to create a new form with no issues. So I guess I just can’t create a new form on a local installation with BBQ enabled.

Unless you want me to try some other methods, I’m going to consider this issue resolved.

Ah, okay! So glad to hear this is patched up, @lizote ??

Let us know if you spot more problems.
