On four of my 15 WordPress sites I am unable to get past the first step in the Configuration Wizard in Yoast SEO. Each site uses the exact Plugins, exact Theme, etc.
At the same time, there is another oddity with each of those four sites and that is that I am not able to perform the settings on the Jetpack Plugin. Get “Unexpected token R in JSON at position 0” type errors on every setting.
I realize one Plugin probable has nothing to do with the other but am finding it strange that I can have eleven sites where both Yoast SEO and Jetpack give no problems and I can go through all eight steps of the configuration wizard easily.
I hope you understand what I’m saying and thank you,
    Kenneth Adair

  • Hello @adairk!

We found a bug in our 14.6 release causing a conflict with Jetpack. We’ve already fixed that in v14.6.1. Can you please make sure you’re updated?

    Hello Rumejan,
I had already updated the Yoast SEO plugin, two or three days ago, even before the people I was asking for help from with the Jetpack told me about it.
I do have the Version 14.6.1 and it changed nothing for me.
Here is the message I get after clicking “next” on the first step of the configuration wizard: A problem occurred when saving the current step, please file a bug report(Opens in a new browser tab) describing what step you are on and which changes you want to make (if any).
    Thanks for the quick reply,
    Kenneth Adair

    Hi @adairk,

Thank you for your reply. We are sorry that you still experience issues with the latest release.

In order to help troubleshooting, we would like to know more details about the error. Do you happen to have access to the server logs to see the exact error logs that happen? Furthermore, can you check if you can see any Javascript errors when you open the configuration wizard? You can find more information how to check for this here: https://yoast.com/help/how-to-find-javascript-errors-with-your-browsers-console/.

    Thanks Jeroen,
I was not able to figure out what that is all about and how to use it.

But thank you very much for trying to help,
    Kenneth Adair

    Hi @adairk,

We are sorry to hear that.

To clarify, when the configuration wizard cannot be (completely) loaded, in most cases, there is a Javascript error. Javascript is the code language where the configuration wizard is coded in. When plugins and themes add extra Javascript code, it can happen that some code can conflict with one another. That is most likely happening on your site when you open the wizard.

Apart from the technical details, we understand that the patch release 14.6.1 did not fix this issue for you. In order to help find the culprit, we would need more details of the error that is happening. The way to find the exact error is by checking the browser console to see if there are errors listed. The steps how to check for this is can be found in the help article we linked earlier. We hope you can try to see if you can find more details.

Apart from checking for the Javascript errors, you can also do a conflict check. This means you temporarily disable all plugins but Yoast SEO and see if the same issue persists. If not, then you can enable one plugin at a time to see when the issue reappears. You can find more details on doing a conflict check here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/.

    Hope this helps.

Well I tried that out for an hour or so and really could not figure it out. I did find this though and they told me to go to some RYTE thing but the RYTE thing wants me to pay to find out if my site can be found b search engines which won’t happen.
    Thanks again,
    Ken
“An error occurred while checking whether your site can be found by search engines SEO
Ryte offers a free indexability check for Yoast SEO users. The request to Ryte to check whether your site can be found by search engines failed due to an error.

Error details: cURL error 28: Operation timed out after 5005 milliseconds with 0 bytes received (http_request_failed)
If this is a live site, it is recommended that you figure out why the check failed.(Opens in a new browser tab)

Go to Ryte to analyze your entire site(Opens in a new browser tab)

This was reported by the Yoast SEO plugin”

    Hi @adairk,

Ryte’s service is optional, so no need to pay. If you see that your homepage appears in search results, you can disregard the cURL 28 error. Please know that this error is related to the Ryte indexability check and does not influence your site rank in any way.

The Ryte check sends a request from your site to the Ryte service. This could mean there’s an issue outside of your control, like a server issue between your site and Ryte or Ryte’s server. We’ve seen that this error is sometimes temporary and usually resolves itself without you having to take any action.

This reply explains the issue in more detail:

    Hi All,
Just want to let you all know that no need to worry about this any more. I am having all of those problem sites wiped off my hosting and going to start over again with them with a clean slate.
    Thanks for the help,
    Ken
