Empty Sitemap being created for some excluded categories

    I have excluded categories, yet empty sitemaps are still being created for some of them.

    For example, I excluded category A. Under Category A are posts 1,2,3,4,5.

    Empty sitemaps are being created for posts 1 and 4, for example. 2,3,5 are ok, no sitemap created.

    Just a few, but this results in Google Webmaster generating a 404.

    What I did was un-exclude the excluded category to make it work. But I really want to exclude it.

    This happens in 2 of my WordPress installations.

    I am looking at the past questions, many have not been answered for many months.
