Conditional links to archive or page with same name as term
-
I am probably missing the obvious here but what can I do or plugin can I use to alter the href associated with links rendered on any page on a site. Without coding each individually.
Posts are assigned to geographical terms for instance. There might be a post with a destination taxonomy term and but I want to route users to a page related to some term instead of the term archive itself. That is a link on a page is in respect of the UK which might be a destination term but I want the user to be sent to the UK Page instead of the UK term listing.
My thinking is that the majority of terms on my site do not warrant any special treatment and can be handled ok within the terms listing methodology however some terms may be come more important over time, indeed some are immediately, and be better suited to a page based output instead so that I can take advantage of shortcodes/widgets or other hand crafting elements.
I see two possible routes: recoding the archive.php page or javascripted rewriting of all taxonomy links. Not good. Any thoughts please.
