My server’s CSXWatch (virus and malware scanning) program alerted me to some files that were added to the mailoptin plugin folder today. When I went in there I am seeing lots of strange, suspicious folder names such as a5hleyrich, soundasleep, and guzzlehttp, etc. All of which seem to have been added or updated when I updated the plugin recently. The files are only in the mailoptin folder. Specifically the vendor folder such as:

    public_html/wp-content/plugins/mailoptin/vendor/soundasleep/html2text/tests/pre.html’

    What are these folders?

Soundasleep is a library MailOptin uses to automatically generate a text version of HTML email. We use it in our email automation feature.

The folder a5hleyrich is a library we use to perform task at the background asynchronously without hurting your page load.

While guzzlehttp is a library for making HTTP requests.

Most of these library has a “test” which contain codes to auomtate testing with phpunit.

The files/folder are safe and not virus as indicated by your antivirus.

Thank you for the prompt response. I was hoping that was the case but with such suspicious sounding folder names I was concerned and wanted clarification.

In future, we will add a step to our deploy script to remove all test folders of libraries we depend on.
