    I mostly wanted to use WordPress for two things.

    1. News archive

    2. Comment feature on the news entries

    My question is the following.

    1. I want to use a php function to import some php file that displays just the latest post and links to archive/comment page onto the main page.

    Is there a theme or widget that works for that already?

    2. If I want to edit a theme to fit my needs, is there any legal issues I have to look out for?

    Is there any technical issues, I should look out for?

    1. You will be able to do that with any theme – no widget required. Making wordpress do exactly what you want is a wordpress perk. ??

    2. Read the copyright restrictions associated with the theme, but usually, you are okay to modify things to your hearts content as long as you don’t resell.
