• Hi all,

I will try to keep this brief and hit the high points…

    -Purchased domain on GoDaddy
-Bought a premium plan on wordpress.com
-Realized I was limited on plugins
-Realized there is a .com and .org
-Came to the conclusion I wanted more freedom with .org
-Purchased a wordpress hosting plan through GoDaddy
-GoDaddy takes me to the exact same wordpress.com customizer
-Contacted their help and he said I should be able to add custom plugins but can’t
    -Downloaded wordpress 4.4
-Have no idea what I am doing

What I am wanting to do…
-Be able to create wordpress sites with freedom

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!!!

You need to update your domain name servers to point to the new godaddy name servers. thats probably the cause you are returning to wp.com. Since your domain name is with godaddy you just need to use their DNS.

See if this can help you => https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/point-a-wordpress-com-domain-to-godaddy/

    Thanks for the replies.

On my .com site it shows the following for the domains:

My mapped domain which I purchased through GoDaddy – This is set as primary
    My wordpress.com domain name

Do I need to delete my mapped domain and then use the wordpress.com domain to edit my dns settings?

    Hi bdub02,

Yes, you will need to remove the domain mapping in wp.com.

When you bought the domain on godaddy at some point you had to point the domain to wp.com, right? Now, you need to create a NS record to your godaddy hosting account.

Just go to your godaddy account and find out what is the NS of the hosting account (if you use cPanel you can see it there, something like ns1.yourdomain.com or ns2.domaincontrol.com) you bought, and create a NS record to those from the DNS settings at godaddy domain panel. Basically you are point the domain back to your new hosting account with godaddy, so you can have control of it there.

I suggest you read this article just to get the point:

I finally got it to work! I appreciate all of the help. One more question though.

GoDaddy lets me customize everything I am wanting to customize including adding plugins. If I continue to use GoDaddy to design my site then I will not have to install anything else right?

    Glad i could help!

Yes, you will not need to install anything else. There is all for now, you can install plugins, themes and other tools if you like. But the primary steps you have already done!

    Cheers.

I can’t figure out how to repair some of my problems. I would like to uninstall and then reinstall the website. Is this possible without losing what I already have? I have updated but that didn’t help.
Thank you for any thing you can do for me. I have troubles seeing so I can’t follow much reading also very ignorant.

    Hi there,

First, you need to tell us what is your problem in first place.
Second, yes you can reinstall without lossing anything.

And last but not least, you should open your own topic. Not because i don’t wanna help you, but is the best way to get help about your topic.

Open your own topic and point me to there and i will help you.

    Cheers.

    @dicklovesjc@yahoo.com,

If the above info didn’t help you, then, as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. That way you stand a good chance of getting full attention to your specific issue. Despite any similarity in symptoms, your issue is likely to be completely different because of possible differences in physical servers, accounts, hosts, plugins, theme, configurations, etc. Thus one problem, on one setup is not indicative of the functionality and reliability of an application as a whole.
