Completely clueless-which version to download?

  • Just to show you exactly how clueless I am, I don’t even know which version of wordpress I should be downloading. ??
    My webhost is using Linux. Does it matter which version of wp is downloaded/uploaded to my webhost server? Are the files the same in both the .tar.gz and .zip files?
    How’s that for the ultimate newbie question?
    Yes, you’ll all be running from my future posts, I’m sure…but hopefully someone will be patient enough to answer.

  • The files are the same in both, download whichever you can unpack and upload to your server. Be sure and dl 1.2 if your webhost has mysql database and can run php.

    The latest stable release of WP is WP1.2-Mingus you can download that at Sourceforce [see Downloads link]. If you are in Windows, the .zip compression is most easy to extract.

    Thank you both. I asked my webhost come over here to look at WordPress to make sure their servers complied with the requirements. So it looks like I’m good to go.
