I started using Pootle Page Builder in beta after a very happy experience using its predecessor built for Canvas. How I got to this point is something that I would urge anyone who feels intimidated, or more accurately paralysed by the multiplicity of choice that a fully-featured off-the-shelf theme might offer. I had a business idea, turned to WordPress and thought I was making the right decision by buying the kind of theme that comes with 20 home pages – none of which turned out to do exactly what I wanted. In the end I found myself compromising my concept to fit someone else’s idea of what my site should look like.

Instead I started reading about theme frameworks and my preference for using Canvas and designing my own child theme was largely down to the support offered by PootlePress through their academy.

By starting off with their Canvas Page Builder plugin, and now using the Pootle Page Builder i am, slowly designing the site page by page that existed in my imagination and in my wireframes and sketches long before I bought an off the shelf theme. I’m learning more about WordPress too.

So I’d urge anyone who might have thought that page or theme design in WordPress was not for them, to purchase a theme frame work such as Genesis or Canvas, create a child theme, and start playing around with Page Builder. It’s a beautifully designed product.

    Thanks Jamie

I haven’t tried it yet with BuddyPress – sorry to ask a straightforward question but can Page Builder be used to create Group and Member pages? The options offered by BuddyPress itself are pretty limited, although I’m experimenting elsewhere about adding custom fields etc.

    Hi Tom,

At the moment pootle page builder only works on wordpress pages.

I believe buddypress group and member pages are custom post types (but i’m not 100% sure). So at the moment i don’t think this is possible.

If we currently use Canvas Page Builder on a site, what do we need to know to change over to Pootle Page Builder on that same site? I have read about the differences on your website, but did not see a reference to changing from one to the other.

Aside from generic changeover issues, one thing that concerns me is that I have css that calls specific widget id’s (#pg-95-5).
