Completed Orders getting kicked back into processing

    A client’s web store uses a plugin called “place order without payment for woocommerce” and it works flawlessly. It is used because this store sells supplements and prescriptions (refills for existing patients only) that payment gateways find violate their ToS (testosterone, etc.). So this plugin allows them to collect and order in their system, and process the payment with their own CRM after the doctor approves the request – so the plugin is necessary. I give you that info, only so you remove the “disable that plugin” option.

    What is happening, however, is orders that have been successfully reviewed and approved are being marked complete. Then WC kicked them back into Processing.

    Because there’s no successful payment being collected, WC might be kicking it back to processing to satisfy some variable of “completeness” – I’m just thinking out loud…

    Is there a way to add a snippet of code that prevents orders from kicking back into any status once marked complete? Something that tells WC, once the order is marked complete, it is unable to be marked anything else?

    I know this is long, but I’m stumped and I appreciate the help!

    Orders going back from “Completed” to “Processing” may be happening because no payment has been made, but it is due to the involvement of something else, such as a plugin on your site, for example, because this not a normal behavior of WooCommerce. It could even be the plugin “place order without payment for woocommerce” you mentioned.

    * By default, an order will go to “Processing” once it’s paid for, after which you will need to set it to “Completed” manually when the products are shipped out. You can read more on order statuses here: https://woocommerce.com/document/managing-orders/#order-statuses

    * If the order only contains products that are virtual and downloadable, then it will go to “Completed” automatically after payment is completed.

    In your case, are the products set as virtual? If not, please make them so, and see if that eradicates the problem. Here is the documentation to follow: https://woocommerce.com/document/managing-products/#adding-a-virtual-product

    The products are set to regular products because there are variables on several of them (doses, bottle size, etc.) so I can’t convert them all to virtual.

    Hi there,

    I noticed these two are outdated:

    WC Version: 6.9.2

    WC Database Version: 6.9.2

    This could be a problem that was patched in a recent update, please update to the latest version of both WooCommerce and the database.

    Also, what you’re describing is not a default feature of WooCommerce. Are you certain you didn’t add any code snippets like this one to automatically process orders to complete?
