    I first installed the plugin “Local Google Fonts”. Worked without problems.

    Then I discovered the option “Load Google Fonts locally” in Syndey. I uninstalled the plugin and enabled the option in Syndey. Then I discovered that Sydney doesn’t handle the Google fonts definied in Elementor.

    So I tried to go back: Disable the option in Sydney again and reinstall the plugin. Doesn’t work, the plugin suddenly reports multiple errors.

    I did some research and found that the folder /wp-content/fonts still exists after I disabled the option in Sydney! Also there is still a database record (in options) “downloaded_font_files” with references to the files in /wp-content/fonts in the format
    …..
    s:109:”https://fonts.gstatic.com/s/opensans/v34/memSYaGs126MiZpBA-UvWbX2vVnXBbObj2OVZyOOSr4dVJWUgsjZ0B4saVIGxA.woff2″;
    s:133:”/var/www/vhosts/xxxxxx.de/httpdocs/wp-content//fonts/open-sans/memSYaGs126MiZpBA-UvWbX2vVnXBbObj2OVZyOOSr4dVJWUgsjZ0B4saVIGxA.woff2″;
    …..
    Note the double slash in …wp-content//fonts… Why?

    How do I ensure that Sydney does not touch anything concerning Google fonts after I disable the option with Customizer?

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello,

    I just tested myself in the way you described it and it seems to work fine.
    Actually, it seems like it’s working fine on your website as well. Have you fixed it in the meantime?

    Hi vladff,

    I got an answer from the support of the plugin Link
    Some kind of service (at Google I guess) wasn’t running and that’s why the plugin didn’t work. I spent 8 hours researching and testing for nothing ??

    Thanks for your support – the problem was with the plugin and not with Sydney!

    Ok, cool.
    However, this is not done. You still have Sydney’s preconnect links to Google Fonts in your source code. Those disappear if you activate the local fonts feature from Sydney so please do that for now, it shouldn’t cause any issues with your plugin.
    Then we’ll figure out a better solution for people who want to use a third-party plugin in a future update.

    Hi Vlad,

    done. Seems to work perfectly. Thanks again for your support!

    I’m using Sydney for all my projects where the customer wants a free theme – and I love it! Often I use it with Elementor as I did here (because I don’t like Gutenberg).

    BTW: I don’t “want” to use that plugin! I would be happy to avoid it and only use the Google fonts feature in Sydney. But Sydney does not handle fonts that are only referenced in Elementor and not in the Customizer.
