Each time I try running a complete scan. The tool seems to hand at around 28% complete. Previously the scan would complete in around 15 minutes or so. I’ve let it go for hours and it doesn’t move past 28%.

This problem has been happening since I installed the most recent update to the Anti-Malware.

Can you advise what to do?

If it always hangs around the same place, can you tell if it is hung up on the same folder every time? If so, what folder is that?

Does the Quick Scan work for either plugins or themes?

Are there any error messages? If not, can you use the Element Inspector or Error Console in your browser to see if there are any JavaScript Errors?

As of today, I have the same problem with two of my sites, except, that the scan hangs at the very beginning. Both sites have the W3 Total Cache installed. On other sites without this plugin the scan works fine.

So I’m pretty sure that (in my case) there’s an incompatibility between W3 Total Cache and the latest version of Anti-Malware. I did not have this problem with previous versions.

I have to correct myself a little bit: I seems to work somehow, but incredibly slowly (about 20 files 15 minutes). And it does not update the Scan Status, only when I close and reopen it.

Another 40 minutes later and both scans don’t do anything visible.

    Hey Mike,
Thanks for reporting this. I just figure out that the “Object Caching” feature in W3 Total Cache is totally breaking the set_transient function in WordPress. If you disabled Object Caching in the Total Cache settings then the Complete Scan should work fine.

Let me know if you have more problems or questions on this.

Thanks for your quick support, it was – as always – very helpful!

Is this Object Cache any good anyway? I’ll leave it off for now.

To be honest I don’t know what good any of that caching does. I know that the concept of caching can be beneficial if it is implemented well but I have yet to see any caching plugins that actually improve the load time noticeably and I don’t think very highly of that W3 Total Cache plugin at all. You should measure your load time with gtmetrix.com to see what your average load time is and then disable all caching and see if it’s actually any slower. I would be interested to see the results of that test if you want to try it.

One more thing: One of my other sites still hangs, but this one does not use W3 Total Cache. It hangs some time while scanning, not always at the same percentage.

Strangely, this is a site with very few plugins installed, the more unusual ones are NextGEN Gallery and NK Google Analytics. The Theme is called “Oxygen” from https://alienwp.com/.

Do you have any clue what is happening there? I’ve started the scan three times now, all my other 20+ WP installations are fine now.

I have released a new update for my plugin that fixes this issue. Please download version 4.15.45 and let me know if you still have any problems.

    Aloha, Eli
