I logged into a semi-dormant website today to do some creative work and saw that it wanted me to update it to PHP 8.0m from 7.4. I did not build this site but it has been functioning just fine for some years now. After clicking the button to update the PHP (which I honestly didn’t know what this meant) it said the update might take 10 minutes but then subsequently my site and all login possibilities have disappeared and say that they have a critical error.

I tried to restore the backup (which existed) but it has since not even showed me this area of the admin.

    many thanks.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello @vidabierta
In wp-config.php add define( ‘WP_DEBUG’, true ); in this file then you show what is issue.

thank you rohitmukati — but I have no idea where the code is. Someone else built the site for me and I was just using it for posts etc. Now I login and it doesn’t even show the existence of anything.

@vidabierta This is probably an outdated plugin/theme issue, which doesn’t work with PHP 8.x.

Do you have access to your hosting server? If yes, try logging in there and reverting PHP version to 7.4. Everything should be working fine, so you can log in into your website and create a backup of everything. Then proceed with updating plugins, themes and finally WP core. That should allow you to update PHP version to 8.x.
