Compatible with previous bridges?

    I’ve got an old bridge wp-bb-bridge by xtnd.it with thousands of accounts that have been integrated.

    Seeing how that plugin hasn’t been updated in years, and yours seems to tout a ‘lightweight’ alternative, I’m thinking of switching. Will there be any problems with the existing users/bridge? Does your system also copy the users from PHPBB over to WP, using PHPBB as the ‘master’, where registrations/logins/password changes etc. take place?

    If users will need to do any password resetting, or anything of the sorts, I’d like to know. Also any details about the tech, and how or which system manages logins etc..

    BridgeDD doesn’t copy anything. It was designed to allow already-existing users in WordPress or phpBB to be auto-integrated into the other application.

    Let’s say a user has logged into phpBB and now browses to WordPress. They will be presented with a menu asking them to either log in or to integrate their account.

    If they have a WordPress account, they would choose the Login option. After logging in, their accounts would be integrated. If they do not have a WordPress account, they would choose the Integrate option. An account will be created for them, and the two will be integrated.

    This method of dealing with already-existing accounts eliminates the need to manually integrate accounts…either through a user interface such as in WP-United, or through manual MySQL manipulations.

    A new version of BridgeDD will be available in a few days. It offers many new features, as well as a smaller system footprint and better compatibility with several WordPress plugins and phpBB MODs. Given the size of your site, you might want to consider waiting until the new version is released.

    Finally, some caveats.

    Even though BridgeDD is “lightweight”, since its function is to make two programs run together, it increases the footprint of WordPress. (You already know this from your experience with wp-phpbb-bridge, but others reading this post may not.) BridgeDD is not compatible with WP Multisite. PHP cache extensions such as APC, OPcache, and XCache must be disabled while you activate and configure BridgeDD.
