Hi, thanks for a great plugin, which did the job beautifully (until the client took the image map off the site!)

I just found your mention on an earlier thread that this plugin is compatible with all versions of WordPress, although the page on www.remarpro.com says v3.4 — had I not spotted that this support forum is active and you resolve stuff quickly, it was about to be deleted from my list of ‘approved plugins’ due to version compatibility/age since update.

I know I’m not the only one who whizzes through my list every so often to check I don’t have any dangerously obsolete plugins in use anywhere. I see the logic in leaving it unchanged, but you risk losing potential users when it advertises such an old version, and the majority of other plugins I use will issue an update every so often even if (apologetically) only to revise that number!

There is already functionality existing in the WordPress repository which allows users to vote on whether a plugin works with a given WordPress version. Currently there are two “Yes” votes for WordPress 4.0 and no “No” votes. Bumping the version number without making any functional changes could be seen as gaming the system to artificially increase the plugin’s download count.

Working great here on 4.01.

Interesting point though – a couple of people (myself included) have recommended your plugin over on LinkedIn but some others are reluctant to try it because it hasn’t been updated for over 2 years.

From what I’ve seen, bumping the version number is pretty standard practice.

Yes, bump up the version number!

Maybe call it 1.3.1 — plugin still supported

It is just a way to document that the plugin is still alive.
The system is here to serve living people with great plugins.

As for version bumping: you could also consider to include the 1.5 version of rwdImageMaps.

And actually I don’t think you’ll get punished if you adjust the WPversion compatibility number.
