Compatibility, or… ? ( items held display anyway )

Version 1.7 of the module.
Was just pointed out to me the other day, that anything held for moderation is displayed anyway, with an (awaiting moderation) tag on the subject line.
I’d prefer, and seem to remember, these only viewable by a moderator at some point in the past ?
How do I hide everything held for moderation from all but moderators, keymasters, and administrators ?

Ideally, I’d really like a “Show only to these rolls” or “Hide from these rolls” option in the settings.
