I have been trying out Wordfence for security but when the Wordfence plugin is enabled and a customer places an order using Paypal, on about half the orders the Paypal payment fails (10486). They have to place a second order which is assigned the next order number and this second order succeeds.
Is this a known incompatibility with Wordfence? Thanks!

I don’t think that has anything to do with Wordfence.

That particular error simply means that the funding source the buyer chose during checkout (on the PayPal pages) does not have sufficient funds to complete the purchase.

PayPal’s documentation for this error covers this in more detail, and we’ve followed what they recommend, which is to send the user back to PayPal to attempt the payment again with a different funding source.

It sounds like that part is working as intended, but it should not be creating an entirely separate order when this happens. Can you confirm that’s what you’re saying?

So you end up with 2 orders in WooCommerce, one that failed and one that completes?

Yes for each customer I get 2 separate orders – the first one is ‘pending payment’ with the error and the second one has the completed payment and is ‘processing’.

OK, I’ll add this to our GitHub list for the next update. We’ll have to see if we can reproduce the problem, and if so, we’ll be sure to get it resolved. Thanks for the feedback!

This has been resolved in our GitHub repo and will be included on the 1.4.0 update that is coming very soon. Should see it within a couple of days.
