• I’m running WordPress on a 64-bit Nginx-based Ubuntu instance on Amazon EC2.

I have the WordPress command-line interface (WP-CLI) installed and it runs perfectly – unless the Better WP Security plugin has been running for a while.

If, for example, I issue a wp core version command, the command line interface should return something like 3.5.1 but, instead, it returns a garbage number such as 336.

When this happens, I can’t run any wp-cli update commands.

The problem goes away if I deactivate the Better WP Security plugin, but then I lose all its settings.

    Any ideas?

  • I know there is an option in Better WP security that scrambles the WP version. Try to deselect this and run wp core version again.
